Thinking About College?
PARENTS—GRANDPARENTS—POTENTIAL SCHOLARS
Now is the time to help make sure that you, your kids, and/or
your grandkids are really involved in HHUMC and its activities.
This is a key criterion in becoming eligible to receive or renew
a college scholarship.
Some suggestions for active church membership are first to be
regular in your church attendance, be active in a Sunday School
class or study group at church, join the choir or bells, become
a greeter or usher, help with projects like Snowfest and Pumpkin
Patch, work with the Youth Group, help with AV, Sound, become
involved in mission projects, etc.
Note that the forms to apply for a Harriett Kaebnick Scholarship
for the next school year are available from this Web page. Even
if you aren’t applying for next year, you may want to review the
forms to see what you need to do to be eligible. If you plan to
attend college in the fall, you should start completing your
forms now. Applications (4-page initial applications and 3-page
renewal applications) are available online and in the Church
Office by April 15th of each year. They are due back
in the office by mid-May annually.
Awards are available to help those attending any
regionally-accredited college or university anywhere in the
country. Depending upon the economy and the resulting dividends
paid on the Scholarship Endowment, scholarships are usually at
least $2,500 for community college students and $5,000 for
four-year colleges or graduate school. If there are sufficient
funds, applications for other types of continuing education are
also considered.
To be eligible for a scholarship, you must have been an active
church member (full, associate, or affiliate) for one year or
longer and have a permanent, local address. Your church-related
activities are a key element in your eligibility. You also must
maintain a 2.0 or better GPA in your college work and you must
STAY active in your church attendance and participation while in
college and on school breaks.
You also must schedule an interview with the Kaebnick
Scholarship Committee on a Saturday during April, May, or June.
This is true for all applicants whether applying for an initial
scholarship or for renewal of your award as a returning scholar.
Your Scholarship Committee looks forward to your application and
meeting you!
